When I first took a look at the menu at Public House Gastro Pub I was sceptic. I mean, slow cooked pork belly in a steamed bun and cured puffin didn’t actually sound appealing. Can you blame me?
But I gave the place a chance and oh my word, I am not sorry. This is by far one of the best restaurants in all of Reykjavík. The food is so inventive and the previously mentioned steamed bun was gorgeous. And the tea smoked duck thigh wrapped in a pancake was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted.
Sure, the prices are a bit steep but you get your money’s worth! The place is rustic, inviting and extremely cozy and it didn’t hurt that they only played grunge music while I dined there. Some power ballads also got to have their moment which only helped the whole experience.
This my friends is a 10 out of 10. Absolutely exquisite.
How to get here?
The restaurant is located on Laugavegur 24 – right in the heart of our main shopping street.
If you’re not staying down town and have to take the bus you can take the number 1, 3, 6, 11, 12, 13 or 14, get off at Lækjartorg and walk up Laugavegur. Or you can take the number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18, get off at Hlemmur and walk down Laugavegur.
