Gamla kaffihúsið, or The Old Café, is located in Breiðholt which has often been called the ghetto of Reykjavík. But in the heart of the beautiful ghetto which is actually a far cry from the problematic area people believe it is, is a cozy and homey café.

The residents of Breiðholt were over the moon when the café opened it’s doors in 2015 since the only thing that had been missing for a very long time in the supposed ghetto was a place to meet, chat, eat some good food and have a break from the normal, day to day life.

Gamla kaffihúsið offers home style cooking for a very reasonable price. Sometimes you can even get a steak, home made bernaise and a baked potato for under 3000 ISK. If that’s not a bargain we don’t know what is!

And for all you single people over 50 – every Tuesday single people over 50 meet at Gamla kaffihúsið and catch up on everyday events, horrible dates and exchange funny anecdotes.

    How to get there?

The café is at Drafnarfell 14-18 so direct your taxi driver there if you opt for that transportation.

For the bus you need to take the number 3, 4, 12 or 17 and get off at the bus stop called Fellaskóli, Gamla kaffihúsið is located on the opposite side of the street and you can’t miss it.
